October 12, 2026

It is with sadness that we share after 32 years as a veterinarian, and 29 years at Milwood Animal Clinic, our Chief of Staff Dr. Smitley is announcing her retirement and will be moving on to the next chapter in her life. Her last day at Milwood will be November 12th, 2026.

We are incredibly grateful for the compassion, dedication, and exceptional care Dr. Smiltey has provided to our patients and their families over the years. She has been a cherished member of our team since 1997, and we know many of you have formed lasting relationships with her throughout her time at Milwood Animal clinic. Please join us in wishing Dr. Smitley the best in her next chapter.

We’ve included her personal note below:

A Message From Dr. Smitley:

"Thank you to all the wonderful clients and patients over the years. It has truly been an honor to be a trusted part of your pets' lives, many of you for several generations of pets. I also want to thank the amazing staff members and other doctors at Milwood that have worked alongside me with expertise and care for all of our patients. I will miss all of my clients and staff, as well as the incredible pets who made each day a pleasure."

While we know many of you will miss Dr. Smitley, we want to reassure you that we’re committed to providing your pets with the same high-quality, compassionate, personalized care you've come to expect from our team. Thank you for your trust and for allowing us to care for your beloved pets.

Special information for exotic pet owners: Dr. Smitley's retirement will bring some necessary changes at Milwood Animal Clinic. Dr. Smitley has been the primary doctor over the last few years who was able to see all exotic patients on a regular basis. Milwood's ability to see exotic patients is now going to be very limited. There are species that we will not be able to see, including Psittacine birds (parrots), rabbits, and fish. The ability to see guinea pigs, chinchillas, reptiles, and other exotic species will be very limited. Please contact us for a list of other area veterinary hospitals that are able to treat exotic species.

While we know many of you will miss Dr. Smitley, we want to reassure you that we’re committed to providing your pets with the same high-quality, compassionate, personalized care you've come to expect from our team. Thank you for your trust and for allowing us to care for your beloved pets. We look forward to continuing to serve you and your family for many years to come.

Thank you,
The Milwood Animal Clinic Team
